No matter what coastline you might be standing on, the power of the ocean is truly unforgettable and awe inspiring. Growing up in the PNW, I’ve had the privilege of being close to the ocean and spent many of my childhood days playing in the waves, digging in the warm sand, making wonderful memories. My love of the ocean has only grown as Ive had opportunities to explore this world a little more. The Pacific Northwest has a beautiful coastline but the water is freezing cold and the shoreline is often windy and rainy. San Diego beaches are the complete opposite. Warm water crashes over you and you can play for hours in the ocean but it’s not as rugged as Oregon and it’s impossible to tune out the noise of the city behind you. Hawaii, on the other hand, is a taste of paradise with the ocean completely encasing you on a little piece of land.
Such different aspects of the same ocean certainly don’t change just how amazingly powerful it is and every single shot taken is as unique as the next wave. I never go to the beach intending to take pictures but i’ve found through many walks upon the sand, a photo opportunity generally presents itself. By far, my favorite picture in this series is the silhouette of my family framed by the setting sun. Ive been playing with a few reflection techniques and I was so happy with how well this picture came out.
